I recently wrote about my sister. The one who has a gazillion ideas a second….
She once told me that one of her employees confessed to flinching every time she said “I’ve had an idea…” because they figured it would mean more work for them. This was true in some instances, but just because you have an idea and articulate it doesn’t mean you have to act on it immediately. In my sister’s case, she has learned not to scare the pants off people by going into full “let’s do this” mode.
Her latest idea is one that is close to all our hearts. Her second son is about to graduate (if that is the word) from officer training at Sandhurst. We will all be there to witness the pomp and ceremony and cheer him on, but it also means he is about to embark on a career in which he will be sent to some of the more dangerous and conflict ridden places in the world.
It makes sense to support the Charity that supports those wounded in service to their country and with that in mind, Vandy has started “Running with Brushes” – it is a challenge she has set herself – to create 1000 small paintings to be sold with 100% of the selling price going to Care for Casualties. When she told me the name of the initative…I just had to do this illustration for her… It epitomizes Vandy. She manages to fit 48 hours into every 24. And she often does it in heels!
Miss Rumphius, the protagonist in Barbara Cooney’s famous children’s book did something similar:
“That is all very well, little Alice,” said her grandfather, “but there is a third thing you must do…You must do something to make the world more beautiful.”
Miss Rumphius makes the world more beautiful by seed bombing wild lupine seeds all around her home town.
Running with Brushes will be making the world more beautiful by art bombing your world. But there is a catch…it is limited to 1000 paintings. To see what’s on offer NOW and keep up with the latest painting (you don’t want to miss the one that makes your world more beautiful, do you?). Go to www.runningwithbrushes.co.uk, find them on facebook and twitter as well.
Buy a painting, support the initiative and make the world more beautiful.
